Sydney Opera House Spring School Holidays Program
The Sydney Opera House is always popular for school holidays activities. See their program below.
After the Flood: After the Flood is an immersive, dreamlike, audio installation and workshop for children and their adults. Enjoy this calm, magical place and be inspired by the restorative power of story, courage, change, and the sea. Following the personal audio experience, children and adults are invited to draw, make sea creatures and write together using their imaginations, conversations, and reflections. This program is recommended for ages 7-11 and runs for approx. 75-90 minutes. September 24-October 2. $29. More info.
Shadow Puppets: Internationally renowned theatre-makers and visual artist Jumaadi takes children and young people on a journey to make performances using household materials. From storyboarding, paper puppet making and shadow play, this workshop will introduce kids to one of the oldest forms of theatre-making in the world – the traditional art of wayang kulit or shadow puppetry from Indonesia. Then end the day with a performance that the whole family will love. This workshop runs for six hours, with tea and lunch breaks and is recommended for ages 9-12. 10am-4pm, Tuesday, October 4. $125, Creative Kids vouchers are accepted. More info.
Zooom: ZOOOM is an enchanting story of a child alone in her bedroom who, unable to sleep, befriends a lost star. Inspired by children’s book Harold and The Purple Crayon, ZOOOM channels the same philosophy; a child who makes sense of their world through art. An immersive in-theatre experience with lights, projections and lasers – fun for all ages, recommended for 3-years+. It runs for approx. 50 minutes. September 24-October 5. $29. More info.
Alien Invasion: Let the kids enjoy a day of imaginative theatre play where they explore how an alien landed upon the Sydney Opera House. They might witness alien sightings, learn an alien language or even review some hilarious ‘alien security footage’, all in the search for their alien friend. Children will join the Alien Rescue Team in a fun, interactive adventure that weaves its way throughout the Opera House. These three-hour workshops are suitable for ages 5-9 (kids only). Ages 5-7 from 9am-12pm and ages 7-9 from 1-4pm, Wednesday, October 5. $50, Creative Kids vouchers accepted. More info.
Dancer for a Day: Young creators will collaborate, design and perform their own work in costumes with live music in our very own theatre. Budding beginners and more experienced dancers are invited to learn simple improvisation, composition and how to make a dance performance. Kids will learn new movement skills from various dance styles such as hip Hop, capoeira, contemporary dance and classical ballet. This is a three-hour workshop, recommended for ages 9-11. 10am-1pm, Thursday, October 6. $60, Creative Kids vouchers accepted. More info.
ARC by Erth: This latest world-premiere by Erth presents intimate, magical encounters with rare and vulnerable species, raising important questions about our relationship with the changing natural world. ARC is an extraordinary story of self-discovery and wonder told with theatrical magic and larger-than-life puppets. ARC invites young people to get up close and personal with snow leopards, hammerhead sharks, microbats, elephants, and more. The show runs for approx. 55 minutes and is recommended for aged 5+. Teeny Tiny Stevies: ARIA Award-Winning Children’s Artist Teeny Tiny Steviesare heading out on the road, performing a mix of fan favourites and brand-new material from their new album. Sydney Fringe Festival Kid’s Week
DJ Monski Mouse Baby Disco Dance Hall: Get your glitter onesies ready to join Monski and her dancers for this epic session of musical fun. Expect high-energy retro hits and thumping nursery rhymes. Emily Who: A Day for Adventure: An interactive show jam-packed with songs and fun. Emily Who will take families on an imaginary journey under the sea, to a farm, the jungle and even back in time to dance with dinosaurs. This show is ideal for preschoolers, ages 4+. The Vegetable Plot at Sydney Fringe Kids: Serving up a show packed with “veggie bangers” like Avocado, Mango, Waiting for a Bus and Pajamazon Jungle, The Vegetable Plot has recently teamed up with acclaimed puppeteer Kay Yasugi to add some brand new flavours to their live show, especially for this year’s Sydney Fringe. Sydney Fringe Festival: The Beanies EGG-Straordinary Day: Sing, dance and laugh in their giant box fort and help them save EGGbert, the egg they’ve been tasked with baby-sitting who soon goes missing. The Beanies has more than 70 original songs that have been released through ABC Commercial and streamed over three million times. Currently featured on ABC Kids, The Beanies have previously been nominated for an ARIA Award in the category of Best Children’s Album and an Australian Independent Music Award in 2022. BasketballMan can Fly at Sydney Fringe Festival: For years BasketballMan has been a world-renowned Basketball Freestyler and now he is coming to the Sydney Fringe Festival to prove he is a superhero too. Witness BasketballMan as he spins, dribbles, juggles, and performs stunts in this crime fighting, family-friendly, circus show. The show runs for approximately 55 minutes. Kaleidoscope Kids Show – Kaleidoscope is an interactive children’s show featuring live music and a fully scripted story. Come and meet all the little shapes and colours that live inside the kaleidoscope. You can help them on this interactive journey by singing, dancing and keeping watch for any “baddies” that might pop up during the show. The show tells a story with a strong kindness and tolerance theme and an anti-bullying message. Make sure you come dressed in your favourite colour. Maritime Museum has fun activities for all ages
There’s a range of fun school holidays activities happening at the Australian Maritime Museum these holidays, for ages 2-14.
Kids on Deck – Underwater Wonders: Try some sea-themed art or a slimy science experiment inspired by ocean science exhibitions, One Ocean and Ocean Wonders. Create your own luminescent plankton sculptures, craft sea critter pom poms and learn to illustrate watercolour typography. Join in some slippery science or dress up as your favourite aquatic creature. Suitable for ages 4-12 years and carers. Drop-in sessions run every 45 minutes daily, 10.30am – 4pm. More info.
Seahorse circus performance: Come face to face with a larger-than-life sparkly Sydney Seahorse and her seagrass meadow friend. Roving performances feature bubbles, hoops and juggling throughout the museum, imaginatively exploring our endangered local marine life and their habitats. All ages, free with museum entry. Whale Song DJ – Digital music and animation workshop: Love music? Remix, reverb and record your own aquatic-inspired songs and videos in this digital music workshop. Get your hands on underwater audio-visual technology, including hydrophones and drones, to capture the world beneath the surface and learn how acoustic devices are used to track the health of our ocean life. Deep Sea Mystery – Film-making workshop: Inspired by our Ocean Wonders exhibition, delve into unexplored deep-sea regions and discover strange and spectacular creatures. Capture underwater footage and create your own imaginative film, inspired by deep-sea environments and animals. Learn film-making techniques such as green-screen, scripting, directing, acting and props and showcase your work on YouTube. All equipment provided, bookings essential. Recommended for 8-14 years. Mini Mariners: Explore the galleries, sing and dance in interactive tours with costumed guides. Enjoy creative free play, craft, games and story time in our themed activity area. Sensory Friendly Sundays Access Program: A comfortable environment for kids and adults on the autism spectrum and visitors with a variety of access requirements. Join us for Sensory-Friendly Sundays in Spring for a quieter museum experience, visiting new exhibitions, selected vessels and activity areas extra early. Cool Sharks: Clay sculpting workshop: Learn all about sharks and sculpt your own out of clay in these school holiday workshops for children aged 5 to 8 and 9 to 13. Catered for children in years 6 through high school, the Mosman Youth Centre is hosting a themed movie and pizza night on September 30. Parents can drop the kids off and head out for a couple of hours.
From Star Wars to Dr Suess to Disney, come as your favourite character from a nostalgic book series, T.V. show, movie or fairytale. Movies will be chosen based on group suggestions and a democratic vote. There’ll be prizes given away to the best dressed based on creativity and adherence to the theme. So grab your mates, get out your best costumes and enjoy a chill movie night – popcorn & pizza will be provided, free of charge.

Bricks 4 Kidz
If your kids love playing with LEGO, then they’ll have an absolute ball at the Bricks 4 Kidz workshops.
There’s a range of full day workshops happening across the school holidays, suitable for children aged 5 and up, with their Junior Robotic 101 workshop aimed at children aged 7 and up.
The workshops run from 9am-4pm and are held in the Sutherland Uniting Church, corner of Flora & Merton streets, Sutherland. The one-day workshops are $100 and kids get to take home a Bricks 4 Kidz gift at the end of the workshop.

Park Science – Incredible Insects: Children will enjoy 2 hours of hands on investigation and problem solving, including an outdoor bug hunt or dip net, an exploration walk looking at the role of insects in the environment, play fun role-playing games and making their own insect-inspired art to take home. Park Science – Make an Insect Hotel: Children will enjoy 2 hours of hands-on investigation and problem solving, taking a closer look at where insects call home, what attracts insects to different environments and the important role of insects for our survival. Bush Tucker Bash: Take a guided bush tucker tour with Shared Knowledge around the wetlands of Centennial Park. Learn to identify seasonal native bush foods, and their medicinal and cultural uses. Bushrangers – Tracks, Trails and Treasure Hunts: Led by experienced Bush Rangers, children will enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play, all in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. Kids vs Wild – Tracks, Trails and Treasure Hunts: Join a team of Education Rangers for a morning into the wilder side of the park with survival games, animal tracking and trail making. Nature & Art – Spring Eco Art for Kids: If your kids have a love of nature, plants and animals and want to explore their creative side, then this art workshop is for them. They will play some nature-based art games working with a range of art mediums and natural materials to make a series of works to either leave in on site or take home. Kaboo Studio
Kaboo Studio is holding some school holidays splatter paint sessions for children and teens. Keep the kids occupied and let them cover up with a poncho and goggles and throw paint at a canvas to create their own unique canvas design.
The school holidays sessions run for 2 hours and participants have the option to turn their canvas into wearable art by using one of Kaboo Studio’s 30 template designs to put on premium apparel.
The school holiday program includes:
- 30 minutes of colour theory: learn about mixing paint to create different colours, different splatter paint techniques and how colours can create an emotional and physiological response
- 1 hour splatter paint session on a 16″ x 20″ canvas
- 30 minutes for custom product selection and design: choose from one of our 30 template designs (including a unicorn, dinosaur or geometric patterns) to put on a tee or tote bag – delivered within 2 weeks

Spot On Children’s Festival
Riverside Theatres Parramatta is holding its Spot On Children’s Festival 10th birthday celebration these school holidays. This year’s festival features a fun-filled line-up of theatre, musical performances, physical comedy and circus acts.
Playgroup NSW are also getting involved and will transform the Riverside Courtyard into the PlayYard for Playgroup workshops and other playful experiences designed to engage children and help them explore possibilities through play.
Holiday Island: A clown yearns for a summer getaway, so she decides to create it herself at Riverside Theatres. WOW Children’s Festival Casula Powerhouse

The Way Out West (WOW) festival is back and ready to entertain and delight children and teens up to 15-years-old and their families.
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre’s WOW Festival 2022 will deliver a wide range of arts, cultural events and activities. The program will have a strong focus on sustainability, community and play and will include free all-day drop-in events, ticketed workshops and performances, interactive art, exhibitions, outdoor play, and music.
Liverpool Library will also be presenting a free pop-up library and the opening weekend will feature a youth market for young local artists.
Ticketed events include a live show by The Lah-Lahs, a music and dance show by Bunny Racket, a magic show by Mada’s Marvels and so much more.
Free Events on Thursday, September 29 include: Air Sticks Play, Shadowland, Katy Plummer Workshops and Installation, Chalk Walk, Re-written Workshop, Photography and Green Screen Workshop, Mother Tongue Community Spheres: Dance & Visual Art.
